With the historical opening
of the express rail in April 2004, Korea has joined
the league of France, Japan, Germany and Spain and
entered into the super high-speed train era, operating
at speeds of 300km per hour.
Opening of the express rail, which has been referred
to as the biggest national policy project since
the national foundation, will not only bring about
enormous changes to the lives of Koreans by enabling
them to reach anywhere in the country within three
hours, but it will also have a huge influence on
the economic, social and cultural aspects of the
country.
Fast, safe, convenient and environmentally friendly,
the express rail is a product of the latest technology
and will secure its position as the newest and most
preferred method of transportation for the next
generation. |

Express trains are generally
defined as trains that operate at, or over, speeds
of 200km per hour. Shinkansen of Tokaido, Japan
(Tokyo ~ New Osaka) was the first train in the world
to reach 210km per hour in 1964. Since then, express
trains have developed rapidly, with many countries
focusing on technological improvements to enhance
the speed. Which, has resulted in the current production
of trains that are capable of operating in excess
of 300km per hour. |
